BSRM launched ASTM A 615/ 615 M Grade 60 steel in 2016 which is being marketed under the brand name of BSRM Ultima. This Grade 60 steel reinforcement is for the design of Special Moment Resisting Frames (SMRF) for earthquake resistant structures as BSRM Ultima maintain the minimum T/Y ratio of 1.25.  BSRM ULTIMA conforms to the U.S. national reinforcing steel standard ASTM A615/ 615 M Grade 60 and BDS ISO 6935-2; 2016 Grade 420 and has been advocated in latest American Concrete Institute (ACI 318-2019) code and BNBC 2020. BNBC 2020 and ACI 2019 state that the Buildings in earthquake prone areas should be built on Special Moment Frames (SMF). The BNBC and ACI further state that special Moment Frames (SMF) should be reinforced with high ‘strain hardening’ steel.

  • Standard: U.S. national reinforcing steel standard ASTM A-615/ 615 M Grade 60 and ISO 6935-2 Grade 420 and has been advocated in latest American Concrete Institute (ACI) code of 2014 and Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) of 2015.
  • The Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) 2015 and the American Concrete Institute (ACI) 2014 state” Buildings in earthquake prone areas should be built on Special Moment Frames (SMF). The BNBC and ACI further state that special Moment Frames (SMF) should be reinforced with high ‘strain hardening’ steel.
  • Features and Applications: Further any type of structure, commercial or residential, in Zone –IV which encompasses Sylhet and Mymensingh in the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) needs to be reinforced with ‘strain hardening’ steel and designed with special moment frames. The design approach prevents catastrophic sandwich collapse of buildings in the event of an earthquake.
